Ice Cream:
The best and most reliable ice creams are those with the fewest and most basic ingredients. So most of the top brands such as Breyers, Edy's, and Turkey Hill are the ones that will cause you the least amount of grief. The list of ingredients includes good, pure, basic things like cream and sugar. Most of their flavors are fine. Just look out for the flavors that contain cookies, ice cream cones, cookie dough, cake batter, candy-bars that are not gluten-free and basically anything containing wheat products. Obviously, these are not gluten-free. If you are not sure, just contact the companies to check. www.breyers.com, www.edys.com, www.turkeyhill.com,
www.benjerry.com, www.dovechocolate.com, www.haagen-dazs.com, wwwklondikebar.com, www.icecreamusa.com/good_humor/,
The less reliable brands are generally the less expensive brands with many confusing ingredients. Again, many of them are still safe, but it is much less obvious and usually requires more research.
Chocolate:
Like ice cream, the purer the chocolate, the safer it probably is. Look for a good quality chocolate like Godiva, Dove, Hersheys or even Nestle. These are all gluten-free in their basic form but you have to be careful when anything is added to them. Such as the crunches in a Nestle's Crunch bar. These contain barley and are therefore, not gluten-free. Again, contact the company to be sure. But whenever you are having a severe chocolate craving and are unsure of what you can have, just grab yourself some m&m's or chocolate kisses! www.hersheys.com, www.nestleusa.com, www.godiva.com, www.dovechocolate.com.
