Dining Out

Dining out for a Celiac is a lot like playing Russian Roulette. You really have to weigh the value of that dining experience. Is it worth the possibility that you could be layed-up in agony for the next few days? Every once in a while, you might be lucky enough to find a restaurant that really understands gluten intolerance and will take the time to make sure that you have a happy and safe dining experience. If you know of a place like that and want to share that gem with other Celiac's in your area, please post that experience on my blog. As for chain restaurants that have discovered the niche of desperate gluten-free diners, here is a list that you may find very helpful:
The following restaurants either have a gluten-free menu, or are generally willing to work with their customers to meet specific dietary needs. But please remember to always talk to your server in detail about your condition and express the importance of your request as there are no garauntees!

Fast Food:
I don't know of any fast food restaurant that has a perfect GF score. Each individual location seems to do things differently. If you get used to one location that is very careful about not cooking their chicken nuggets in the french fry oil, you are probably going to get sick eating the exact same food at another location. Always ask specifically if the oil is shared and make sure that they understand that your food needs to be handled carefully. The only thing that has never made us sick is the chili at Wendy's. But basically, if you cannot afford to get sick at all, do not eat at a fast food restaurant-period.
